In the early morning of April 26, 1986, the number 4 reactor of the Chernobyl Power Plant Complex blew up. Residents in the nearby town of Pripyat were well aware that something big had happened, but news about exactly what was not forthcoming.
So a number of residents walked to this location to observe the events at the power plant, but little did they know that they had walked into a highly contaminated fallout area.
It had been reported that everybody who viewed events at this location died during the ensuing weeks and months. Although there have been reports saying this was not true. But what is true is the longer you watched events at this location, the more radiation you were exposed to, and the less likely you were to survive the ensuing weeks and months.
